New Year Message

John Taylor acting Chairman of Clyde FC spoke to the website this afternoon and passed on this message to the fans as we get ready for the New Year that will hopefully not be as eventful as 2004…

“ON BEHALF OF EVERYONE AT CLYDE FOOTBALL CLUB I’D LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY OF WISHING ALL “BULLY WEE” FANS AND THEIR FAMILIES A VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS 2005.

AS WE ALL KNOW, 2004 HAS BEEN A VERY EVENTFUL YEAR FOR THE CLUB, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD. THE FUTURE OF THE CLUB WAS IN SERIOUS DOUBT AS WE ENTERED 2004, THE RESPONSE FROM YOU ALL HAS BEEN A SIGNIFICANT FACTOR IN MAINTAINING OUR STATUS. WHILE MUCH WORK STILL LIES AHEAD, THERE’S NO DOUBT THAT THE EVENTS OF MARCH, WHEN THE SUPPORTERS TRUST MOBILISED A FUND RAISING INITIATIVE, PROVED A TURNING POINT.

IN ADDITION TO THE TRUST BOARD AND FANS, I’D LIKE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE NEW BOARD IN THE SHAPE OF JOHN ALEXANDER, GERRY DUNN, FRANK DUNN, LEN MCGUIRE, BOB MCPHERSON AND JIM MURRAY FOR THEIR ABSOLUTE COMMITMENT IN DRIVING THE CLUB FORWARD. THERE ARE ALSO A GROUP OF PEOPLE PERFORMING VERY IMPORTANT SUPPORT ROLES, TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION, WITHOUT WHOM A CLUB LIKE OURS SIMPLY COULD NOT FUNCTION.

ON THE FIELD, I THINK YOU’LL ALL AGREE THAT THE PLAYERS HAVE PERFORMED BEYOND ALL REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS AND WE’D LIKE TO THANK THEM IN GENERAL AND OUR MANAGER IN PARTICULAR.APPOINTED IN JULY WITH A HANDFUL OF SIGNED PLAYERS, BILLY REID HAS DONE A REMARKABLE JOB. THE BOARD SET BILLY A VERY CLEAR AND CHALLENGING TARGET WHEN HE WAS APPOINTED, TO KEEP THE CLUB IN THE FIRST DIVISION. WHILE NO ONE AT THE CLUB IS TAKING ANYTHING FOR GRANTED, WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH OUR CURRENT LEAGUE POSITION.

WITH YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT, WE FULLY INTEND GIVING BILLY EVERY POSSIBLE BACKING DURING THE YEAR THAT LIES AHEAD.WE ALSO HOPE TO SEE AS MANY OF YOU AS POSSIBLE AT BROADWOOD FOR OUR MATCH AGAINST AIRDRIE UNITED ON NEW YEARS DAY!”
