Reid All About The Stirling Albion Match

Manager Billy Reid gave his thoughts to the website’s Cammy Macdonald after the Stirling Albion game.

“Tonight really confirmed what I already knew and that is that there is a massive job to be done here, and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves on. We know we need players but there is no point in diving in and getting players who are wrong for the Club which I have not done.

“The way we started tonight was incredible. I really could not believe it, losing two goals and indeed could have lost a couple more. What I can take from it is that we were two goals down and got back into the game. And at the end we got back into it and could possibly have won it. But I am not silly and realise that this will not do for the First Division. There is a big, big job to be done here, but it will not happen overnight.

“Martin Glancy has not trained here yet. He has been here for about ten days and not yet done a training session. What he is, is a busy player, with enthusiasm and in the end he deserved his goal because of his fight which some of the players did not show at times.

“It’s still pre season and we still have one or two players who are not playing up to their full potential at the moment. It has been disappointing to lose so many players over the close season and I want to bring in equal quality players. But it is difficult at the moment as I have a budget to work within which I think everyone is aware of. How do you replace players like McLaughlin, Keogh, and Ross? They are just not players who are easy to replace.

“We have taken a chance on Gary Arbuckle. He is here for a year but he is young and still has aspects of his game he needs to work on. Harty has not trained much and that was his first start tonight. But he got his goal and we will just have to wait and see what happens with Ian.

“Tonight the formation was pretty much dictated by the personnel. I tried four at the back and experimented a little against Stenhousemuir and it told me a few things. But we know we can’t go into the First Division with the squad we have and we won’t. But there is no point in jumping in. The fact we don’t have the Bells Cup on Saturday is a big help. The League is our main priority and you want to win every game but at the moment I know the level of performance is not good enough but there will be other teams in the Division saying the same.

“Tonight I thought Craig Bryson was exceptional. He is only seventeen years old but his enthusiasm and his legs and ability showed and I thought he was a credit to himself tonight and he offers a goal threat. That’s three goals in pre-season making him our top scorer. But he is not the only young lad we have. Unfortunately David Greenhill was sacrificed early for the team when I made a couple of early tactical changes but he has also done well.
