Billy Reid Is The New Clyde Manager

Billy Reid was last night named as the new manager of Clyde.

“The Board was of the opinion that Billy had proved to be a very able deputy during his time at the Club,” explained Clyde’s acting Chairman John Taylor, “On that basis, we decided against interviewing any other candidates for the position.”

Billy Reid has been acting in a caretaker capacity since his return from holiday on 26 June and has had a number of talks with members of the Board about the way forward for Clyde this season, and the amount of money that would be made available to him for new players.

Having lost the services of twelve of last season’s first team squad, and acutely aware of the Clyde board’s determination to carefully control the budgets, he is under no illusions about the task he is facing: “”We have less money to spend and that will definitely affect my ability to buy in quality. I also believe that the Division will be even more competitive this year. We all want Clyde to prosper in the First Division but, in the short term, survival in this Division may be a more realistic measure of our success.”

It was also confirmed that Falkirk-born Stuart Balmer would be taking over as Clyde’s new Assistant Manager on 1 August The 6ft 1″ centre half has played for Wigan Athletic, Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United and latterly Boston United but it’s his nine years with Charlton Athletic that dominates his playing career, a near decade of service at The Valley during which he became a firm favourite of the Addicks’ fans.

Stuart’s fourteen year stay in English football gives him wide knowledge of the game down south and this will dovetail with Billy Reid’s local expertise as the new managerial pair set about building up the Bully Wee’s squad for what promises to be a stimulating season for Clyde.
