Marshall: There’S More To Come

Young midfielder Colin Marshall celebrated last week’s news that he would be staying at Broadwood until at least the end of the season with a fine performance on Saturday and insists the Clyde support have yet to see the best of him.

Speaking to the website, Colin described his first ever goal for The Bully Wee – a 25 yard screamer into the top corner – and also the match in general:-

“My first shot that hit the post wasn’t far away so I was just happy that the second one went in. I had a look for a pass but there was nothing on so I just had a dig and in it went. I’m a bit disappointed that it wasn’t the second or third goal because I would have liked a big celebration! It’s about time I got a goal though.

“Falkirk did well to be fair to them but we had a talk at half-time about what we were doing wrong and also made a substitution, which paid off. A lot of teams would have given up but we kept going and stuck together.”

Colin was clearly delighted with Alan Kernaghan’s offer to keep him at Broadwood until May and feels it has given him an extra edge:-

“I’ve been working a bit harder in training over the last couple of weeks so I was ready to go last weekend but had to wait until Saturday to get onto the park.

“I’m enjoying it here and really glad to be staying until the end of the season. You don’t get any better feeling than a win like that on Saturday and everything is a team effort. The manager said all along it was up to me whether or not I stayed here and there were no doubts in my mind.”

There would appear to be no doubt that Colin is fitting in well at the club after a shaky start:-

“The team spirit in the dressing room and the way the boys come together is brilliant. We’ll all argue on the pitch but as soon as we come off that’s it finished with. I’ve played in the last 9 or 10 games now so I feel like a part of it all.

“At Aston Villa I wasn’t involved in the first team very much but up here I love coming to training every day with the first team and I think it’s helping my confidence.”

Regarding the future, Colin admitted that it is uncertain for him:-

“My contract with Villa is up at the end of the season so in a few months I might not have a job. Even if Clyde don’t want to keep me after May it’s better for me to be in the shop window by playing regularly.”

Colin has featured on the right hand side of the park for Clyde despite playing in central midfield previously in his career, but he doesn’t seem to be fased by the position and is determined to prove he has more in his locker:-

“The Gaffer has said he doesn’t want to play me in the middle and I’m happy to play on the right, although I much prefer it in a 4-4-2 rather than the 3-5-2 we played when I first came into the side.

“Although I did a bit better on Saturday, I don’t think I’ve done very well at all since I came to Clyde but I’ve managed to hold down my place recently and there’s a lot more to come from me.”
