Clyde @ Asda Cumbernauld
The club are currently in detailed discussions about setting up a partnership with Asda. Initially, this will take the form of a merchandising operation, with Asda taking on Clyde replica strips in the Cumbernauld store.
Both parties are hoping to build on this to help build Clyde’s profile locally and help publicise Asda’s own role in the community. We are planning to hold a series of events at Asda in the coming months to raise awareness of Clyde FC as Cumbernauld’s local club and help increase attendances at Broadwood.
Gerry Dunn said, “We are delighted to be working with Asda who, as well as being the world’s biggest retailer, understand the role that the local football club can play in the community. I believe the partnership between Clyde FC and Asda will be terrific for of us. It’s not just about selling more replicas, we both want to establish Clyde as THE football club for the people of Cumbernauld.”
Asda Cumbernauld currently has 70,000 shoppers per week and will soon be opening a non food extension which will make the store one of the biggest in Scotland.
Store Manager Colin Pearce commented, “I’m looking forward to the partnership enormously. In terms of Clyde in Cumbernauld, the one word that comes to my mind is “potential”. They have a great stadium and a talented Manager and squad who are looking to get into the SPL, yet a lot of people in Cumbernauld are unaware that a successful football club is operating on their doorsteps. We can increase their awareness and consequently the crowds at Broadwood through various initiatives that will be mutually beneficial. Building links in the community is very important to ASDA, so bringing the community to Clyde is very much a priority for us.”
