Youth Teams News
The club’s youth setup will have a new look for the 2003/04 season, with the under-18 side making way for under-17 and under-19 teams.
The U-19 squad, who’ll be sponsored by Inline Services, will largely consist of the same players who enjoyed large success over the last year, and will again be coached by Billy Reid and Andy Millen. Following on from a superb 6-0 victory over a highly rated Hearts side this week, the 19s were in action again this morning against Cumbernauld United. Details on both matches to follow soon.
The youngsters, many of whom will be hoping to break into the first team this year, are also looking forward to a 3 week training camp at FC Dordrecht in Holland. Former Dumbarton boss David Winnie has been appointed to lead the squad on the trip, taking place between 27th July and 16th August, and will be assisted by Jim Junnor.
In addition to the expert training schedule put in place, there will be matches against FC Dordrecht Youth, Capelle (a local amateur side) and
Charlie Clark, Billy Reid Jnr and John Baird will not make the trip as they may be needed for first team duty, so under-17s Paul McLean, David McNaught and Chris Reid will join the party. Billy Reid Snr said, “This is another fantastic opportunity for the boys, and I’m delighted that David Winnie has agreed to look after the squad. It was important to get the right man, and the boys can learn a lot from him.”
Look out for regular updates from Holland on the website in August.
The club are also delighted to announce that ex-Hamilton Manager Chris Hillcoat (pictured right) was yesterday appointed under-17s Coach for the season, and the side will be sponsored by OKI.
