This match is unique in the sense that it was the last ever Glasgow Cup to be competed for by the senior sides of the five Glasgow clubs. Starting in season 1989/90, the competition was played at under 18 level and has continued in this format ever since. The change to a youth competition was a result of the “Old Firm” being unable to find free dates in their fixture schedule to compete for the World’s second oldest trophy.
