Sad Farewell For Stevie

Stevie Convery has decided to turn down the club’s offer of a new contract and team up with old allies Ronnie MacDonald and Allan Maitland at Hamilton Accies next season.

Convery arrived with MacDonald and a host of ex-junior players in the summer of 98 and, despite various injury problems, proved to be an important and hugely popular member of the squad during his Clyde career.

Always willing to give 110% and with an eye for goal, he was an instant hit. He recorded 138 appearances in total and scored 26 goals.

“I’m sorry to be leaving Clyde,” Stevie told the website today, “but I feel at Hamilton I will have a better chance of playing on a regular basis. It was a very difficult decision to leave after five good years, and I changed my mind more than once before making up my mind.”

“It was becoming increasingly difficult being the only part-time player at the club and in the end that helped sway my decision. It was certainly not a financial decision. Clyde have become very successful and that success made it harder for me to get into the team.”

“I was very glad that Alan Kernaghan wanted me to stay; in fact he has been brilliant with me. Unfortunately though, it was hard towards the end when I was not training with the club so Alan could only see how I was doing when I came on.”

“I think Clyde have a great chance of winning the league next season and I could have stuck around and been part of that, but I want to play games. I really do wish the club all the best in the future, and I’d like to thank the fans for their support over the years.”

Every Bully Wee fan will no doubt be sad to see him leave, although many happy memories remain.
