Club Bid For Youth Academy Funding

The Club will launch its new youth initiative, “keeping the jersey warm”, on Tuesday 19th of November, 6.00pm till 7.00pm at Broadwood. This event will be attended by all first team members, players from our eight youth sides and be open to the press. Due to space restrictions the event will be closed to the public, but a full review will follow on the website.

What’s it all about?

Well, “keeping the jersey warm” will formalise the links between all players at the club, whether they are a youth player in the under 10s or an established first team player. The first team player will become a Mentor for each player in his position throughout the eight youths sides. He will advise on specific aspects of play which any player is having difficulty in, and supplement the great work being undertaken by all our SFA coaches in each youth side. (i.e. if the goalkeeper in the under 10s is having difficulty with cross balls because of positioning, then Bryn Halliwell will provide advice and counselling.)

Each player is currently graded on field performance, including discipline and off field behaviour (eg timekeeping and attitude). This record will be monitored to the end of the season when a “Clyde Dream Team 2002-03″ will be announced at a gala dinner, when each member of ” The Dream Team” will be presented with the first team jersey in his position, framed and signed by his Mentor. The Dream Team’s photograph will be framed and hung in the Broadwood foyer for posterity.

This initiative will bond the players of the Club, consolidate our position as a key innovator of youth development in Scottish football and fit perfectly within our submitted bid to secure a Clyde Youth Academy at Broadwood…
