Friendly Dates Confirmed

Clyde have lined up a tough pre-season schedule to get them ready for the 2002/03 campaign. Alan Kernaghan clearly feels the friendly fixtures are very important.

First up is the annual visit to Oban for the Oban Saints Tournament. Clyde are the current holders of the trophy and Alan Kernaghan would like to retain it, although he has admitted it will be an experimental side that will travel.

Norwich City, who today missed out on a Premiership spot by losing a penalty shootout to Birmingham in Cardiff, will travel to Broadwood soon after. This will be a massive test for the squad as Clyde will be unlikely to face a team of that standard during the season. Players like Alex Notman (Man Utd starlet), Marc Libbra (ex-Hibs), Gary Holt (ex-Kilmarnock) and Paul Dalglish, to name only a few, show the quality that is currently at the club. Jamie Mitchell began his career at Norwich but he will be leaving Clyde before the game takes place.

A week later, Clyde travel to Almondvale for a game against Euro hopefuls Livingston. The fans that were at the last game Clyde played there will fondly remember the 2-0 win and the 2 fabulous goals by Jamie and Leigh Hinds. There is a small possibilty this game will be contested behind closed doors, please see the website nearer the time for more details.

Clyde’s final warm-up game is against Nationwide Second Division outfit Cardiff City. Like Norwich and Livi, they will also provide a very stern test for The Bully Wee. One player you will recognise in their squad is former Stenhousemuir and Livingston ‘keeper Neil Alexander, who is now City’s first choice goalkeeper. No doubt manager Lennie Lawrence will field a strong team for the Friday night encounter.
