Airdrieonians 2 Clyde 2: Match Reaction
Clyde were unlucky not to take all three points at New Broomfield today, although as usual the two managers and sets of supporters saw things differently. There were some poor aspects to Clyde’s play but they had the best chances to win the match. Leigh Hinds and Andy Millen (via a deflection) got the goals.
Ian McCall:
“I thought we were in control of the game until we lost that daft goal in the second half. But at 2-1 you’ve got to take your chances, we had so many just to go on and win the game. And I’ve just found out that Andy Millen’s volley has taken a deflection off Kevin James, it was going right into Neil Bennet’s arms otherwise. Bad luck.”
“We don’t know about Neil McFarlane yet but we think it might be bad – his studs have caught and his knee has gone the other way and he’s in a lot of pain just now. I thought the players played ever so well, we changed it and went three up and should have scored more. But at 2-1 down the game is never dead and you’ve got to score another goal and Clyde got a wee break at the end with 5 minutes to go. I thought we dominated the second half.”
Alan Kernaghan:
“We should have won. We had two great chances at the end there, in fact we had the best chances in the game. I’m disappointed, Bryn could have done better with the second goal but all and all I was quite pleased with the defenders.”
“A point isn’t too bad though. We had some great performances from the players – McLaughlin, Mitchell, Ross in particular. I was pleased. We kept going all game, playing the same way. We had to change things near the end, we put three up as did Airdrie and it’s a pity we couldn’t get the goal near the end.”
“I’m enjoying game days, they’re great, and the rest is hard work but I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I’m really pleased the players have responded to what we wanted them to do and that’s all we can ask for. This is season is just about surviving, there’s a lot of teams saying “we are too good to go down” so we need to get the points. I’m not going to be playing just now, I’m knackered unfortunately.”
