The Bully Wee booked their place in the semi-final of the City of Glasgow Cup, after coming from behind to beat Partick Thistle thanks to a hat-trick from Monday Samuel.

The Nigerian made his first start for the club in an XI that contained two trialists; 16-year-old right-back Ben Gilfillan, and Liam Scullion, who played in the previous Glasgow Cup ties this month.

The match was Partick Thistle’s home tie but they reversed the fixture and it was played at Broadwood.

The Jags took the lead inside two minutes when Lewis Lovering headed home a corner from close range.

After that The Bully Wee dominated and Monday Samuel made things level in the 19th minute, after intercepting a slack pass across the edge of the box and slotted beyond Andy Firth.

Scullion then saw his curling shot from distance come back off the crossbar, before Ally Love cut inside and fired an effort on target, but Firth was equal to it.

Clyde took the lead after Love whipped in a cross from the by-line, which was headed away by a defender, only into the path of the onrushing Samuel, who showed great technique to lash a volley into the roof of the net from just inside the box.

Samuel completed his hat-trick midway through the second half following good work by Scullion which allowed the Nigerian to blast home from close range.

Lewis Jamieson had a chance to increase the lead in the closing stages but dragged an effort wide when through one-on-one, whilst Scullion again was unlucky to see his shot from distance cannon back off the bar.

The Bully Wee will face Queen’s Park in the semi-final stage with the Spiders due to have home advantage. The date of the match is TBC.
