The Bully Wee lost out to Rangers Colts this evening in the City of Glasgow Cup, with the visitors booking their place in next month’s final.

Danny Lennon took the opportunity to give game time to several players who have been on the fringes of the squad in recent weeks.

The Gers dominated the first half and Matej Vajs had to make an early save, but could do nothing about the opening goal in the 29th minute. A Clyde corner was cleared upfield and Glenn Middleton got a break of the ball before driving in on goal and slotting beyond the Slovakian.

The Bully Wee should have netted an equaliser when Josh Jack’s effort was parried to the feet of Mark Lamont, but he couldn’t make a proper connection with the goal at his mercy.

Clyde had much the better of the second half and had another golden opportunity within 20 seconds of the restart. Jay Henderson found himself one-on-one with Nicky Hogarth, but the ‘keeper made a fine block with his leg.

The visitors added a second goal against the run of play with 20 minutes remaining, when Middleton found the back of the net from a well taken free-kick.

The Bully Wee created several chances in the closing stages but couldn’t find a way past Hogarth, whilst Rangers ended the night with 10 men, after Ciaran Dickson was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.
