Recap

Second half goals from Liam Scullion and Logan Dunachie against Jeanfield Swifts this evening secured The Bully Wee’s passage into the fourth round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

Ian McCall made two changes to his side, with Erik Sula and Jon Craig replacing Stuart Carswell and Alex King.

The opening half was keenly contested despite neither goalkeeper being really tested. The visitors had the ball in the net after a quarter of an hour but the assistant referee flagged it for offside, whilst Liam Scullion thought he had made the breakthrough five minutes from the interval after launching a shot from 25 yards that had Mark Mitchell beaten and looked destined for the top corner, but the ball cannoned off the inside of the post and bounced out.

Kian Leslie was introduced from the bench at half-time and made some key contributions as The Bully Wee won the tie. He was unlucky not to score himself after latching onto Darren Hynes’ lob into the box but dragged his volley wide, but from the resultant goal kick he picked up the ball and fed it to Ji Stevenson whose cross from the left was met by Scullion, and he gave Mitchell no chance with a header into the top corner of the net.

Jeanfield almost responded immediately when the ball was cut back to an unmarked Chris McLeish in the six yard box but he couldn’t find the target. Euan Cameron then came close to doubling the lead with a left footed drive from outside the box which ended up just the wrong side of the post, before he was shown a straight red card a few minutes later for a strong ball winning challenge in the middle of the pitch.

Despite having a man less Clyde added a second goal six minutes from time when Leslie whipped a free-kick in from close to the corner flag, and Logan Dunachie rose highest to head the ball into the net.

At the other end Jack Leighfield was kept on his toes and made a fantastic two handed save in stoppage time to deny Jamie Reid from netting a consolation with a blistering volley.
