STAR RATINGS (*****)

Halliwell *** Very little involvement in the match.
Mensing *** Solid without being spectacular.
Kernaghan *** A full season is more than possible.
McLaughlin *** Flashes of his old form and fitness.
Fraser *** Worked hard without much reward.
Ross **** Always a threat going forward, a fine display.
Hagen *** Saw a lot of the ball again before taking a nasty knock.
Millen ** One of Andy’s quietest games for a long time.
Keogh *** A physical battle which he stuck to well
McConalogue *** Looked good when involved.
Harty *** Seems to come alive when inside the box. Encouraging.

Potter *** Same as Mensing.
Halliday *** Very raw, but did well and put in some nice crosses.
Gilhaney **** Only on for 15 minutes or so, but caused all sorts of problems.
Doyle ** Didn’t see much action.

REACTION

ALAN KERNAGHAN – "It was good to win, but I’m more interested in the performance, which I thought was great. At this stage in the season I can’t ask for any more. We looked sharper in front of goal than we have done, defensively we looked good and we dominated the midfield bar a ten minute spell in the second half."

"We’ve been trying to find Ian Harty’s best position, but he’s got better and better as time has gone on so we are pleased with him. Robert Halliday did well when he came on also."

"We’ve been stressing to the players that winning pre-season games is good, but it doesn’t mean anything, as last season showed. We can’t let that happen again."

RAY GRAYDON – "Ayr were missing 3 or 4 of their more experienced players on Tuesday night, and I played a different side tonight, so it is hard to compare like with like tonight but we got exactly what I was expecting – a good, competitive game against a big team who are a little bit further ahead than our squad in terms of pre-season training. I thought Clyde moved the ball very well, deserved to win the game and gave us a real test. I’m sure they will do very well this year."
