Cowboy Ready to Ride Again

Following a busy first day as first team coach, an enthusiastic John “Cowboy” McCormack spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk for some thoughts on his appointment:-

“Having been out of the game for so long, straight away I was interested in the role. I spoke to John Brown on Monday, when I also had the chance to see the game against Glencairn and I was delighted to speak to Neil Watt again on Tuesday to start finalising things.

“Everything is sorted now and that’s me at Clyde! The type of feelings I had at things like my first game or my senior debut came back to me again this week; I’m excited and I appreciate the opportunity. I’m going to do everything in my power to help John get this team up the league. That’s the priority.

“I know John from our time at Dundee. He’s a great guy who has a lot of passion. It’s important for me to take some of the weight off him and I certainly wouldn’t have taken on the role if I didn’t feel that I could make a difference. John is the manager and the main man but I am not here to just say ‘yes’ to him, I’ll give him my opinion either way.

“I’ve had a few clubs and had my ups and downs but that’s irrelevant and the only thing on my mind now is Clyde v Brechin. That’s the way I work.”

John was speaking just after the Thursday night training session and was certainly not downhearted by what he saw…

“I had my first contact with the players tonight and I think they are a great bunch of boys. It’s clear that they are still trying hard to get to know each other, being a new squad.

“My experience on and off the park can hopefully help but if you have willing participants then that’s the first big hurdle and these guys showed tonight that they are that. They want to get wins and get that first one under their belt – they know what that would do for everyone associated with the club.”
