Peter MacDonald Signs

The club is delighted to announce the signing of experienced striker Peter MacDonald.

A former Rangers youngster, MacDonald’s senior career began after moving to St.Johnstone in 2001, where he went on to make over 200 appearances across a ten-year period with the Perth club, competing in both the Championship and the Premier League.

After leaving McDiarmid Park in 2011, spells at Championship clubs Greenock Morton and Dundee followed. In January 2015, Peter returned to Cappielow again, helping The Ton to a League 1 title victory and then staying on for the most recent 2015-16 campaign.

In total, the 35-year-old has recorded over 100 goals throughout his career in Scottish football to date.

Speaking to the official website this evening, Clyde manager Barry Ferguson said:-

“I think we’re getting everything with Peaso. He’s played and scored goals at the highest level in Scotland and not only that, he’s a good character and a good man to have in the dressing room.

“I’ve known him for a long time, since he was a youngster at Rangers and I’ve kept in contact with him over the years. When he became available I couldn’t pass up on the chance to bring someone of his quality to the club. I’ve been talking to him for a few weeks and he was wanted by several other clubs, so I’m really glad to get the deal done.

“From our first conversation about coming to Clyde, his hunger and desire really shone through. Last season was a bit of a non-event for him at Morton for various reasons, but he is now so enthusiastic about coming to Clyde and fighting for his place in the team.

“I know what people might say about him not having played much last season or that he’s had injuries in the past, but that doesn’t concern me or anyone else I spoke to about him. He’s desperate to get back into it. He’s maybe been unlucky with injuries in the past but I’d have been kicking myself if I hadn’t taken the opportunity to sign someone of his calibre. I know I’d regret it later.

“Overall I’m just delighted to get him on board. We’ve reduced the age of the squad overall but it’s still important that we have a mix and some experienced guys like Peaso, JP McGovern, Scott McLaughlin and Sean Higgins. I’m excited about the competition we’ll have in the squad in all positions now.”

Peter will join the squad for training tomorrow and is expected to be available to be involved in Saturday’s friendly against Celtic XI at Broadwood.
