The central midfielder came through the academy at Partick Thistle before gaining first-team experience at Queen’s Park through a loan and then a permanent deal with the Spiders.

Docherty then joined Stirling Albion in 2018 for three seasons, before spending the same amount of time at Annan Athletic. He made over 100 appearances for the Galabankies and helped them win promotion to League 1 in 2023.
