PREVIEW: Peterhead v Clyde

Fri, 14th Jan 2022 2:05pm

Clyde make the long trip up north to Peterhead in cinch League 1 this Saturday.

The previous games between the two sides this season have been tight encounters full of goals, with Peterhead edging a 3-2 in the first Balmoor clash this season and the most recent game at Broadwood ending in a 2-2 draw where Clyde came from two goals down to draw thanks to a David Goodwillie double.

Ross Cunningham and Paul Kennedy continue to be ruled out due to injury, but Clyde will have Aaron Splaine who returns from suspension and David Goodwillie is likely to be back following a few weeks on the sidelines.

Danny Lennon spoke to the official website ahead of the match:-

“In terms of the work ethic and the performance recently is a standard that we’re not resting upon, we’re always looking to improve to try and get closer to picking up maximum points from tight games. That’s what good teams do, and that’s what Cove Rangers have been doing on their fantastic run; they can grind games out and turn tight matches into wins.

“That’s what we’ve got to aspire to and I feel we’re getting closer. There’s no secret formula, it’s hard work and organisation. The application from the players in the last month or so has been great and we need to continue that.

“We’re under no illusion how difficult Peterhead away is for us, they always come out the traps fast and get right in about you. It’s always an incredibly competitive match between us, when we both met down here it was a close affair for 25 minutes and all of a sudden they find themselves 2-0 up and we get back into the game and in my opinion on top in the second half and we were unlucky to not come away with the victory.

“We know with the level of performances we’ve been putting in recently that we can go up there with confidence, but not with arrogance.”
