Clyde Chairman Gordon Thomson spoke to the official website today, following Saturday’s extremely disappointing Scottish Cup defeat at Clydebank.

“A previous manager I used to work with, when faced with a challenge, had the saying ‘always measure your response’. It’s guidance that has never left me throughout my career and at times in football it continues to be sound advice. This is a further time, as we now consider our response as a Board and a Club.

“On Saturday, Clydebank fully deserved the victory. Our best wishes go to The Bankies - their supporters have faced much adversity and we wish them further success on and off the pitch as they move ahead and make positive strides in rebuilding their club.

“Whilst acknowledging that the manner of our performance was not acceptable and of serious concern, we have to accept the result; no team has a divine right to win. Once more on Saturday Clyde supporters turned out in force to back the club and that support will never be taken for granted. I thank all the supporters for turning up, on a typically cold day, with the sole intention of cheering the side onto victory and I deeply regret that the match went the way it did.

“We never budget beyond the first round of a cup competition, but an immediate exit is huge blow not only for morale but also in finances.

“I can assure everyone that the disappointment and hurt is shared by all at the club. I fully recognise that words are cheap so a response needs to be seen as well as read.”
