Clyde 1-0 Annan Athletic

Sat, 15th Dec 2018 7:18pm

There was late drama at a freezing Broadwood this afternoon, as John Rankin netted a stoppage time goal to hand Clyde all three points against Annan Athletic.

Danny Lennon made one change to his side from last Saturday, with Jack Boyle replacing Kristoffer Syvertsen.

Constant sleet and low temperatures made playing conditions very difficult, and there was little in the way of first-half action to keep the fans entertained.

Barry Cuddihy blazed a shot over the bar after being the first to react to Annan 'keeper Alex Mitchell spilling Jack Boyle's shot, and Kevin Nicoll also failed to take advantage of a rebound from a corner.

Just before half-time Jack Boyle picked up the ball on the edge of the box and jinked past four Annan defenders before curling a left-footed shot across the face of goal and just past the post.

After the interval Aidan Smith had a chance for the visitors which went narrowly wide, and at the other end Scott Rumsby saw his header from a corner deflected onto the crossbar.

Clyde had the ball in the back of the net after David Goodwillie got on the end of Boyle's flick on and rounded Mitchell to slot home, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside, much to the displeasure of The Bully Wee players and technical area.

Annan had a chance to win the game in the 89th minute but Blair Currie was able to save Max Wright's effort. The Bully Wee then launched a counter attack and only the foot of Mitchell stopped Goodwillie from scoring, after the striker got a shot away inside the box.

The deadlock was finally broken as the game entered the second minute of stoppage time. Kieran Duffie's long throw into the box was headed on by fellow sub Karim Belmokhtar into the path of John Rankin, who made no mistake with his close range finish.

The full-time whistle blew shortly after, as Clyde extended their unbeaten run to six games.
