Stirling Albion 0-3 Clyde

Sat, 11th Aug 2018 7:57pm

The Bully Wee lept to the top of the Ladbrokes League 2 table this afternoon following an excellent team performance against Stirling Albion at Forthbank.

Danny Lennon made one change to the side that defeated Cowdenbeath last Saturday, with club captain Kevin Nicoll returning from suspension to replace Mark Lamont.

Clyde opened the scoring with only five minutes on the clock when Jordan Stewart's free-kick into the box was knocked down by Martin McNiff into the path of Ally Love, who hooked his shot past Cammy Binnie and into the back of the net.

Only the crossbar denied Kevin Nicoll from doubling the advantage with a long range volley shortly after, and Clyde's skipper was also unlucky to see another dipping effort from outside the box go narrowly over, after showing some good skill to beat two Stirling players.

A second goal came on the stroke of half-time following a well-worked move. Ray Grant threaded a ball through the defence to Stewart, and the left-back hit the by-line and crossed into the box, where David Goodwillie was on hand to place a header home.

The points were sealed just after the hour mark when Goodwillie picked out Love with a pass on the corner of the box. Love hit a shot from a wide angle which beat Binnie, and went in off the post.

John Rankin had a chance to make it 4-0 when he was played through on goal following another crisp passing move but Binnie denied him.

At the other end of the park Blair Currie had a quiet afternoon, but he was called into action with a few minutes remaining, making a good save from a Mark Stewart effort.

Clyde had another chance to add to their lead in the final minute when Eddie Ferns played in David Goodwillie, but Binnie got down to turn his shot behind.
