Under-20s Round-up

Thu, 5th Apr 2018 12:05pm

In the last few weeks, Clyde's under-20 side have played their first few matches under interim head coach William Torrance, as the Development League West season nears its conclusion.

William's first match in charge saw a 0-0 draw away to Albion Rovers, before the youngsters lost 5-1 away to Greenock Morton.

The following two games were both very close matches against East Kilbride, back to back. The first of which saw East Kilbride grab a 3-2 win on the Broadwood Astro, before the away match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Last night, the under-20s took on Morton again, this time on the Broadwood Astro. Five first team squad members featured in the starting line-up; Jordan Lowdon, Max Wright, Steve Kipre, Aaron Millar and Smart Osadolor.

The game started very similar to the previous meeting of the sides, as just before the 20 minute mark Morton took the lead. A low cross from the right hand side proved too difficult to deal with for the Clyde defenders and the trialist defender hit the ball past the' keeper and into his own net. The Ton then added a second goal from close range as their attacker got on the end of another low cross and tapped the ball in from six yards out. Just before the break, Aaron Millar was unlucky to see his flick from a good ball into the box hit against the side netting.

Clyde had a couple more chances in the second half, through Steve Kipre and Aaron Millar again, but both their headers failed to find the back of the net. Morton the finished the game off around the hour mark, after a good run by a midfielder allowed him to work his way into the box and finish past the ‘keeper to make it 3-0.

William spoke to the official website after the game:-

"The boys have done well since I've took over from Tony. It's been tough and we've had to play a lot of trialists, but they've played well the past two games against tough opposition. They deserve praise for the game against Albion Rovers too.

"We've had a lot of 17-year-olds playing and a few schoolboys as well, and they're punching well above their weight right now. They've been doing well in training and we need to just keep the standards high."
