Community Foundation – Literacy Trail

The Clyde Community Foundation’s literacy trail has been flourishing in the recent weeks.

Over 270 primary and secondary school pupils from the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area have taken part in the course which involves media training, interview analysis and commentary analysis to improve the pupils english and literacy skills whilst keeping the education relevant to football.

The course is a game of two halves, with the three workshops in the morning and an afternoon of games on the Broadwood pitch in the afternoon.

Principal teacher of PE at Kilsyth Academy, David Buchanan said: “It was a very worthwhile experience and it was good to bring football and literacy together.”

One of the female pupils, Sarah from Kilsyth Academy even admitted, “I never thought I liked football but I actually do now!” 

The programme has been very successful in its early days with children being sent home happy from Broadwood.

Tom Elliott, Community Development Manager at the Clyde Foundation said: “We have had a fantastic response to our new literacy programme from local primary and secondary schools and we continue to take enquiries about from other schools in the area.

“The pupils seem to really love that they are getting the chance to spend the day at their local football club.”
