Peterhead 2-1 Clyde

Tue, 27th Feb 2018 9:46pm

The Bully Wee were unable to get back to winnings ways on a snowing evening in Peterhead, as the hosts took all three points to move to the top of the Ladbrokes League 2 table.

Danny Lennon made two changes to the side from Saturday's defeat at Forthbank, with Kyle Gourlay replacing Blair Currie in goals, and Mark Lamont dropped to the bench, to give Ray Grant his first Clyde start.

After a well contested opening period of the match, played in bitterly cold and snowy conditions, Clyde had a great chance to open the scoring just after the half hour mark, but Jack Boyle couldn't convert from close range after being set up by David Goodwillie.

Peterhead took advantage of that let off and took the lead a few minutes later, with Russell McLean finishing off a move that started on the left wing.

However, only moments later, The Bully Wee should have scored again when Goodwillie went through on goal, but his attempted chip shot didn't beat home 'keeper Greg Fleming.

The Blue Toon once more punished Clyde for that before half-time, as Jack Leith fired the ball high into the net.

Clyde produced a spirited second half performance though and, after 63 minutes, Goodwillie scored with an excellent low strike to open the match up again.

The Bully Wee's top scorer had the best chance to earn a draw before the final whistle. With about ten minutes left to play, the forward once again worked his way to a sight of goal, but his efforts to go around Fleming and then find the net unfortunately led to the ball drifting wide of the target.
