Under-20s: Clyde 0-3 Airdrie

Tue, 7th Nov 2017 2:20pm

Clyde's under-20s slipped to a three-goal defeat at home to Airdrie on Sunday, in the latest Development League West match.

Airdrie started the game stronger, however The Bully Wee did create two early chances, both of which fell to a trialist striker but neither chance was taken. The visitors were the more dominant side with more possession and took the lead when a long ball allowed the Airdrie striker through on the goalkeeper to score. As The Diamonds continued to control and dictate the play, some good football and an unstoppable strike into the top corner made it 0-2.

The second half saw a change in shape for Clyde and several good chances were created, without any being converted. This was eventually punished as Airdrie broke down the left wing and a cross was headed into his own net by Chris Martin to make it 0-3. In the later stages, the game opened up with more chances at both ends, but there was no more scoring and the final whistle ended a comfortable win for The Diamonds.

Head coach Tony McNally spoke to the website following the game:-

"It was just an all-round off day for the boys, who were looking tired. We have to remember these young lads are out on loan to junior clubs also playing on a Saturday, so we can't fault the lads' effort and work-rate. One thing they haven't been scared of is hard work and last week's training sessions saw the under-20 squad join the first team, bringing a togetherness to all.

"I would like to say a massive thanks to the backroom team; coach Ian Currie, kit man Billy Bentley, physio Alannah MacPherson and goalkeeping coach Kris Scullion who all attended both the first team game on Saturday and the under-20 game on Sunday. They show great commitment and it proves that the club has some great people in place.

"It was a real team effort over the last week from everyone at the club, including the first team players who helped the younger lads in training."
