Former Favourites Sign Up to 2017 Golf Day

Thu, 13th Apr 2017 7:27pm

The club's Annual Golf Day takes place in less than a month and, as preparations continue, a number of former Clyde favourites have signed up to take part in the event.

Six ex-players from different periods in Clyde's recent history (pictured, left to right) have been confirmed so far:-

Neil Hood - A Clyde legend, signed by Stan Anderson in October 1975, and immediately started off by doing what he did best - scoring goals! He continued to score goals all through his two spells with the club and was voted the as Clyde's 'Cult Hero' on the BBC programme Grandstand.

Phil Cairney - Took over the yellow jersey when the late Tommy McCulloch left the club in 1972 and made it his own for the next few seasons. He was instrumental in the club's 72-73 Second Division Championship side, returning an impressive 20 clean sheets from 32 league appearances.

Robert Reilly - Another man who could have the tag 'Clyde Legend' attached to him, Robert came to Shawfield in 1981 and scored twice on his debut. He won a Second Division Championship medal in his first season with the club and stayed with Clyde for a further four seasons.

Jim Thomson - An imposing figure at the back, Jim came to Clyde in 1991 from the famous Campsie Black Watch team. An integral figure in Alex Smith's defence, he picked up a Second Division Championship medal in season 92-93.

Gary McSwegan - Joined Clyde in mid-March 2008, to help the club avoid the drop out of Division One. He turned in a masterclass performance after coming on at half-time in the play-off second leg against Alloa, when The Bully Wee famously turned a 2-5 deficit into a 6-5 victory.

Lee Sharp - Joined the club in 2009 - as a youth coach! Lee was still playing at Junior level, thus it was only in 2011 that he signed a playing contract with Clyde. Over the next two seasons he made around 50 appearances, mainly in his familiar left-back role.

The fundraising event takes place on Friday 12th May at The Westerwood Golf & Country Club, Cumbernauld.

The format of the day will involve breakfast on arrival, 18-hole 'Texas Scramble' golf, an afternoon meal and a raffle, auction and prizegiving to conclude the event. The cost to enter a team of three is £350+VAT and each team will be accompanied by a special guest - with more to be added to the list above soon.

To secure one of the remaining places, please contact Graham Murray at [email protected] as soon as possible.
