Montrose 2-1 Clyde

Sat, 10th Dec 2016 5:21pm

The Bully Wee missed the chance to put pressure on the top teams in Ladbrokes League 2 today, as Montrose took advantage of a change of manager to move off the bottom of the table.

Barry Ferguson named the same starting line-up to Tuesday night's Scottish Cup win over Arbroath, with Scott Tiffoney replacing Matt Flynn on the bench.

In an uneventful first half, Montrose took the lead through a Gary Fraser penalty after McNiff committed a foul in the penalty area and was yellow carded.

Clyde came out brightly in the second half and were level within six minutes of the restart after a McNiff cross was handled by a Montrose defender, and Peter MacDonald equalised from the spot.

The Bully Wee then went on to dominate but were to rue a series of missed chances.

Montrose scored the winner in 70 minutes when Callum MacDonald was allowed to waltz though the Clyde defence, leaving Graham Webster with a simple tap in.

Scott Ferguson had replaced Darren Miller and Tiffoney was a late sub for Scott Linton, but the home side held firm in a frustrating afternoon which saw four Clyde players picking up yellow cards.

Speaking after the match, Barry Ferguson said: "I was really disappointed with our first half performance. How we could have gone from the Arbroath display to that, it was unacceptable.

"I got a reaction in the second half, but we really need to learn how to see out a game. Despite the chances we made and missed, we needed to stay firm at the back and it was individual errors that cost us again."
