Clyde 3-1 Montrose

Sat, 7th Nov 2015 8:50pm

The Bully Wee secured an important victory in Ladbrokes League 2 this afternoon, in an entertaining match at Broadwood.

Barry Ferguson made two changes to the starting line-up following last week's match at Hampden, with Scott Ferguson and Scott Linton coming in for Steven Brisbane and the unavailable Sean Higgins.

Clyde started the game strongly and nearly took an early lead when Mark McLaughlin's header was parried away by visiting goalkeeper Ross Salmon. David Gormley also came close with a volley from inside the box, but the ball just missed the target.

At the other end, a dangerous few minutes of attacking play by The Gable Endies led to John Gibson pulling off a fine save to stop Ryan Ferguson, before Michael Bolochoweckyj had to react quickly to clear Gary Fraser's effort off the line.

The action soon returned to the opposite goalmouth though and Clyde got the opening goal after 26 minutes. Scott Linton's long throw was flicked on by Mark McLaughlin and David Marsh bravely attacked the ball and found a way to squeeze it past Salmon.

Ten minutes later, Bolochoweckyj (pictured) doubled the lead when he met Chris Mitchell's corner and put a fine header into the net via the inside of the post.

After the half-time interval, Linton's long-range effort forced Salmon into a good save, but Montrose looked livelier and forced their way back into the match thanks to a superb curling shot by Fraser.

However, the two-goal cushion was restored after 71 minutes when Scott Ferguson's shot was blocked and Scott McLaughlin was on hand to convert the rebound.

Just before the final whistle, Ferguson was denied what would have been a deserved goal when he evaded two defenders and entered the penalty box, but his low shot was pushed away by Salmon.
