Scott Steps Up to the Mark

Mon, 10th Aug 2015 8:30pm

Following his winning goal against Stirling Albion at Forthbank, Scott Linton has revealed that he put himself forward for penalty duty this season, despite not taking any for his previous clubs.

Speaking to the media after the match on Saturday, Scott explained:-

"I've never been on penalties since going senior, but I asked who was on them before the Livingston match and the gaffer asked me to take them if I was confident. It's a new experience for me, but I'm just going to keep the head down and put my foot through them. Thankfully I stuck the first one away well.

"I used to take the penalties for my school team but I haven't since then. It's also nearly two years since my last goal for Dumbarton. I used to play in midfield when I was younger and I did score quite a lot of goals, but as I've dropped back to defence it's something that has slipped away. I've set myself a bit of a target for this season so that's a good start."

Although there was room for improvement in the team's performance, Scott did feel that it was a deserved win and praised the effort shown by his team-mates:-

"Without playing brilliant, I thought we were the better team in the first half and we said at half-time that if we could up it by 5 or 10% then we could cause them problems. We didn't get off to a great start in the second half but we defended really well and then managed to win the penalty.

"We know how hard this league is going to be and we'll need to work as hard in every game if we want to challenge at the top."
