East Stirlingshire 3-0 Clyde

Tue, 19th Feb 2013 9:53pm

The Bully Wee slumped to another disappointing defeat as East Stirlingshire in the end ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Ochilview.

The game actually started promisingly for Clyde. Some early attacking play led to a clear cut chance for Kevin Watt (pictured) but ‘Shire keeper Grant Hay was equal to the task.

Thereafter, the momentum gradually began to swing towards the home side.

A Michael Herd strike from 25 yards in the 18th minute gave 'Shire a spectacular lead and Clyde were then faced with an uphill task as East Stirling's passing game exploited gaps in The Bully Wee's defence. Jamie Barclay kept the deficit to a single goal with some fine saves but, nevertheless, Clyde still created some opportunities in front of goal but lacked a clinical finish.

The second half started in a similar fashion and Clyde were left to rue their missed chances when Quinn converted a disputed penalty in the 56th minute. There was no doubt, however, about Andy Stirling's fine strike three minutes later that sealed the points.

From that moment on 'Shire dominated the game in manner similar to the last meeting of the clubs at Ochilview in September, but they were unable to add to their lead.

All in all, a bitterly disappointing night that saw Clyde drop to 9th place in the Third Division table.
