Clyde 2-1 East Stirling

Sat, 15th Dec 2012 6:34pm

The Bully Wee defeated The Shire at Broadwood this afternoon, with goals by Scullion and Watt proving to be enough to earn three points.

With Stef McCluskey and David Marsh ruled out through injury, Jim Duffy fielded the same starting line-up as at Elgin last week.

There were few chances at either end in an evenly contested opening period of the match. However, Clyde took the lead after 20 minutes when Pat Scullion gathered a Sean Fitzharris (right) pass at the edge of the box and placed a clever lob over Grant Hay and into the top of the net.

The visitors didn't take long to equalise though. Nathan Shepherd's run into the box was ended when he tangled with John Kane, which prompted the referee to point to the spot. The incident also led to a lengthy delay in play, as Shepherd was taken from the field in considerable discomfort. Paul Quinn eventually stepped up and scored the penalty.

Kevin Watt then missed a glorious chance to score before the half-time break, but he couldn't direct his header on target.

Soon after the interval, the same player made amends, converting Stuart McColm's neat cross at the back post to make it 2-1.

East Stirling had plenty of possession thereafter, although struggled to turn it into significant pressure in the final third. Jamie Barclay did have to react sharply on a couple of occasions though.

In the final minute, McColm almost sealed the victory when he beat the onrushing away 'keeper, but his shot was cleared off the line.
