Clyde 0-2 Peterhead

Sat, 18th Aug 2012 6:57pm

Clyde suffered a frustrating defeat at the hands of Peterhead this afternoon, as The Blue Toon ruthlessly took advantage of two defensive errors at Recreation Park.

Jim Duffy went with the same starting line-up that won at Montrose last week, with Stevie Masterton making his second appearance in midfield as a trialist.

Clyde started the match well and created some decent chances. John Sweeney went close with a deflected shot from the edge of the box although, at the other end, the visitors thought they had forced the ball over the line following a corner but their claims were waved away.

A mix up between David Marsh and Iain Gray then gave Robbie Winters a sight of goal and he caught out Jamie Barclay with a chipped shot from 20 yards to give Peterhead the lead.

John Neill (right) then came agonisingly close to getting an equaliser before the Clyde defence gave away a second soft goal. John Kane's clumsy challenge led to a penalty kick and Rory McAllister calmly slotted it away.

The Bully Wee's frustration continued early in the second half as the lively Stef McCluskey had a great chance to score, but he couldn't beat Paul Jarvie from close range.

Peterhead looked to keep things tight for the rest of the match and limited Clyde's efforts on goal, although Neill could have made the last few minutes interesting but he was unable to force home a header amongst a cluster of players at the back post.
