Berwick Rangers 2-1 Clyde

Sat, 13th Nov 2010 9:15pm

The Bully Wee's winless run continued in England this afternoon, but it could have been so different after an action-packed second half.

Marc McCusker, Willie Sawyers, Kevin Finlayson, Ally Park and JC Hutchison all returned to the Clyde starting line-up.

The first half offered little in terms of chances on goal, but Clyde did enjoy a larger share of possession and territory. McCusker squandered the best opportunity after being released by Adam Strachan, with the striker slicing an attempted cross/shot from close range.

The hosts started the second half in a much livelier fashion but the Bully Wee held firm and went on to take the lead just after the hour mark. From a short free-kick, Alan Lithgow lashed a wonderful shot into the top corner of the net from 30 yards.

Clyde's dominance continued after the goal but it was to prove to be costly spell in the match as three great chances to double the lead were missed or prevented.

Sawyers failed to connect with a cross from a yard out and minutes later he put a shot off target, which led to frantic scenes. With the ball still in play, Strachan hit the outside of the post and McCusker couldn't get a clean strike away from the rebound.

Controversy followed as Clyde eventually found the net, but Sawyers header was apparently ruled out for an earlier foul by Lithgow with the players and fans already celebrating.

Despite the pressure, the home side went on to snatch a victory with two goals in as many minutes.

The first came after a Finlayson slip led to a near post cross being flicked into the net by Ian Little. Seconds later, a shot was blocked by Hutchison but fell to a Berwick player who blasted the ball at goal. Alan Lithgow, on the line, diverted the ball over the bar with his hand, leading to a penalty and a red card for the defender.

Paul Currie made no mistake from the spot to complete yet another frustrating afternoon for Clyde.
