Clyde to Meet Scottish Champions

Tue, 15th Jun 2010 3:03pm

A further friendly has been added to the summer calendar and it's an exciting one for the Bully Wee.

Scottish Champions Rangers have confirmed that they will be bringing their first team to Broadwood on Wednesday 4th August.

It will be Clyde's last warm-up match before the Third Division campaign gets underway and comes at an important time in Walter Smith's preparations for the 2010-11 season.

The Gers last visited Cumbernauld in July 2008, when a near full house saw Nacho Novo (right) grab the winning goal.

Clyde head coach Stuart Millar was excited about the prospect of facing the Ibrox club when he spoke to the official website:-

"I'm delighted with the fixture. As a player or coach you want to compete against the best and Rangers have proven to be just that in recent years.

"Although we are assembling a brand new group of hungry, young players and will be working towards being ready for the long league campaign that begins three days later, I'm sure that the squad will treasure this game and hopefully look back on it with fond memories in the future.

"As a Clyde player, I had the privilege of playing against Rangers in the Skol Cup in 1988 at Firhill. We lost three-nil but I do remember Terry Butcher nearly kicking my head off... and if he missed you Richard Gough got you on the rebound! They were a terrific side though, as they are now.

"I think the board of directors should be credited for managing to organise such a high profile match and everyone is really looking forward to it."

Admission details will be published on the website as soon as they are finalised.
