Sneddon Named Chief Scout

Mon, 10th May 2010 8:43pm

Clyde Football Club can today announce the latest appointment in its football department as Robert Sneddon has been unveiled as the club’s chief scout.

Robert - better known as Rab in football circles - comes to the club with a wealth of experience in amateur and junior football having had a highly successful career as manager of a number of clubs.

After a playing with Bellshill Athletic, Cambuslang Rangers and Thorniewood, Rab started his career in management with Bellshill YMCA, where he won many honours in a five year spell before being introduced to junior management at Blantyre Vics.

Sneddon was then appointed manager of Shotts Bon Accord and in a four year spell took the Lanarkshire club from the Second Division to Premier League champions. Successful stints followed at Bellshill and Maryhill before Rab moved to Pollok where his management brought much success to the Glasgow giants, including three Premier League titles. Due to increasing work commitments and the subsequent pressure on the time he had available for hands on management, Rab stood down from his position at Pollok in February of this year.

Director of football, Neil Watt commented, "I said when I first came to the club that the job of football manager is almost an impossible one these days as the demands are so great, more so for a part-time situation. Our new football structure is intended to share that workload and one such area which can be very time consuming is that of scouting for players. We have carefully considered the type of person that we feel is appropriate for this role and Rab fits the profile perfectly.

"His role will cover two main areas; firstly he will be out and about, taking in games at all levels, from amateur to senior. Rab, who has an enormous knowledge of the Junior football scene having spent twenty years or so very successfully managing teams, will be keeping Stuart Millar up to date on what talent is out there.

"Secondly, Rab will analyse Clyde’s upcoming opponents throughout the season. Nowadays as a coach you can never be too prepared for your opposition and keeping tabs on them and being aware of their strengths and weaknesses can often be a big help.

"Stuart and I have known Rab for many years and both feel very fortunate to have someone of his ability joining us."

Rab was equally pleased when he spoke to the official website today…

"I am delighted to be part of the new team now in place at Clyde. I see this as an opportunity to further my knowledge within the game.

"I have known both Neil and Stuart for a number of years and both have been very successful with their previous clubs. I have also been impressed with Gordon’s knowledge of the game and when you put all this into the one management team, hopefully it can take the club forward.

"The role itself will hopefully allow us to be prepared for the opposing teams as well as highlighting and recommending players that we think can enhance the current playing squad."
