Youth Recognition Delights Neil

Sat, 8th May 2010 9:58pm

Clyde director of football, Neil Watt chatted to www.clydefc.co.uk following 17-year-old Connor Stevenson's Young Player of the Month award:-

"Everyone at the club is proud and delighted that Connor has been recognised by SFL sponsors IRN-BRU for his performances during the final month of the season. The award is well deserved and reflects the contribution he made to the team over the seven games played during April.

"Connor is only starting out on a football career which shows great potential. Over the years, I have seen many players like Connor rise at a young age only to stagnate in youth or reserve team football. It is very important for him that he continues to apply himself as he has done this season and continues to learn and improve which, I believe, comes from playing first team football.

"Unfortunately, nowadays clubs are reluctant to throw young players into first team action but at Clyde this is a route we want to go down. However, it is important for any young player at Clyde who is given their opportunity to recognise that it can be a difficult road ahead and success only comes to those who are willing to apply themselves fully both on and off the pitch, listen to those around them and appreciate that the opportunity to be a professional footballer is a privilege which comes to very few.

"Connor has been at the club for a number of years now and his progression is not only a reflection on those at first team level but those involved in our Youth Academy, particularly Head of Youth, Alan Upton who has seen Connor develop through the various age groups."
