McGowan & Findlay Sign

Sun, 24th Jan 2010 12:45pm

The club yesterday completed the signatures of Neil McGowan, from Ayr United, and goalkeeper Scott Findlay.

Both men featured in the match against Brechin City as trialists, but all the necessary paperwork has now been processed to confirm their status as Clyde players.

32-year-old defender McGowan will bring vast experience to the Bully Wee. He started his career at Albion Rovers before moving to England for a two-year spell with Oxford United.

After short stints at Stranraer, Clydebank and in Iceland, he went on to spend five years at Airdrie United where he was a regular in the Diamonds' defence.

Neil moved to Ayr in 2008 and was once more a mainstay of the team and a key part of the Somerset side's promotion challenge, which saw them move up to the First Division this year. Neil, who can play either at left back or at centre back, featured in 14 matches for the Honest Men this season and the manager is delighted with the acquisition.

Findlay, 26, also signed yesterday. Clyde boss John McCormack spoke to the www.clydefc.co.uk about adding to another goalkeeper to the squad: "Scott started his career with St. Johnstone and Livingston and was most recently on the books of Raith Rovers. Callum is undoubtedly our number 1 choice at the moment and deservedly so. Despite yesterday's unfortunate mistake he has been fantastic for us this season.

"Young Jordan Allan has also done well but we felt that everyone would benefit from competition and we were looking for some more experience in this key position and Scott provides that. We now have three people battling it out for the jersey and that can only be good news for the club as the games come thick and fast."
