Thu, 15th Oct 2009 1:54am

Clyde earned their first away victory in seven months with an excellent 3-0 victory over Arbroath at Gayfield.

Two goals from Willie Sawyers and a fine curling shot from Ally Park saw the Bully Wee gain three points and help lift the team off the bottom of the table.

Throughout the match Clyde's play unsettled their opponents who struggled to cope with the Bully Wee's energy, pace and spirit. In an entertaining game chances were created by both sides however it was Clyde who were in the ascendency when Sawyers steered home a Howarth knock down from close range in the 27th minute.

The visitors were well worth their half-time lead with McLachlan in particular dominant in a central midfield role which utilised his attacking qualities.

Clyde's hunger for maximum points continued after the interval. The Bully Wee doubled their lead in the 50th minute; a run by Sawyers was blocked but Park was first to react and fired his shot into the top corner. The travelling support's joy continued five minutes later when Sawyers was sharp in the box and steered the ball home after a Muir header crashed off the bar.

Chances continued at either end but the visitors continued to look dangerous on the counter attack and to a man defended bravely until the final whistle.

It was a fine victory in a style that was pleasing, not just for the commitment shown but for the passing, movement and attacking play that troubled Arbroath throughout the game.
