Brown Building For the Future

Wed, 28th May 2008 10:25pm

“I want the team to be fit; mentally and physically, filled with players who want to succeed.” Those were the words of Clyde boss John Brown as he spoke today to the official website.

Following a time in Hong Kong that was part-holiday-part-football, John spent the day at Broadwood talking to players but he also emphasised the quality of the coaching staff at the club to nurture the talent who join up:-

“At the club we have myself, Gary Bollan, Dougie Bell and Andy Goram to pass on experience and knowledge of success to our players in the season ahead. We’re looking forward to the opportunity of putting our mark on the team and that is what all efforts are geared to at the moment.

“My aim is to have around 18 players in place for the start of pre-season training with others in on trial competing to complete the squad. By arriving in January I’ve had time to look around and I’m determined to build a squad that has the right attitude and commitment and one that will not be easy fodder for others.
“I wasn’t happy with the fitness levels when I arrived and that required to be changed. We hit a bit of form in the play-offs and the fans showed their appreciation of that but what was vital for the support was that they saw 100% effort from the players and that is what I’ll be expecting from each game next season.
“I’m looking at bringing in a few fresh faces in addition to the current squad and things are moving positively but I’ll not name names until pen has been put to paper. However, one player I can talk about is Stuart Kettlewell - I was delighted to sign him. He was one of our top targets, he has bags of energy, aggression and keeps going for the full 90 minutes and that’s what I want and I’m sure the fans want to see in the whole team.

“It is a busy time but an exciting one on and off the field as we build for next season and every effort is being made to ensure that the correct preparations are in place. We'll be ready to hit the ground running from the first whistle.”
