Stevie Wonders of More Cup Glory

Thu, 22nd Nov 2007 1:30pm

Stevie Masterton met the media recently and he was keen to get back into cup action: "The Montrose match is an important one for the club; none of the boys are underestimating the task that we face. Montrose have had some great results and the memories of our cup exits at the hands of Dunfermline and Raith Rovers are still fresh in our minds.

"We need to apply ourselves properly, Montrose have beaten Stirling 5-1 in the Challenge Cup and ran Falkirk very close in the CIS Cup. Lots of

people thought Pollok would have beaten them in the last round but they deservedly won through and we will need to play at our best."

The Scottish Cup of course brings back lots of memories as Clyde move into the 50th anniversary of their last cup triumph but 'Mastie' talked of a more recent cup success: "The Celtic match was an amazing experience. I really shouldn't have played but I somehow got through a fitness test. I was so nervous about letting the guys down if I had to go off early that the injury actually settled my nerves about being up against Roy Keane!"

"Sadly, despite the victory that afternoon, our season virtually died thereafter and I was out injured for a few weeks and dropped for the Gretna match. It was a memorable 90 minutes but a hard one to match. Even though we struggled at times after the game it was still a shame that we were unable to maintain that squad of players at Broadwood. I really do believe we could have done well but it was not to be.

"Saturday now gives our new squad the chance to start another cup run and we are really looking forward to get back into action."
