Miller Time

Joe Miller spoke exclusively to www.clydefc.co.uk to reflect on the weekend’s victory over Hamilton… “I actually think we didn’t play as well as we have done recently but the conditions did make it difficult. I think what showed though on Saturday was our general fitness levels. We were strong throughout the 90 minutes and it paid dividends towards the end as we could have scored more.

“I’ve been working with these guys for a while now and they know what I want and what I expect from them. I will not stand in the way of any player who wishes to move on but what we have chatted about recently, is for the guys not just to use Clyde as a stepping stone or a platform for others to see them, rather I have challenged them to see how far this squad can take Clyde and how they can progress in the game at the same time.”

Joe continues to be determined to add to the squad…

“I’ve been offered superstars on the back of their reputations of old but what we need at Clyde is young, enthusiastic players with the right attitude, lads who are fresh maybe untried in regular first team football. Brian (Gilmour) is an example of that. We offered him a fresh start. He was sitting in the house disappointed at the way things had worked out – now he is loving it here and relishing the opportunity of first team football at a decent level.

“We have a great core of players but what we need to do now is strengthen the squad but again I repeat myself it is not just about signing players for the sake of it. It takes time to get the right players in, so they can develop with us and contribute. Look at Ryan McCann for instance. Once more we have a player who loves it here, has worked hard to get his fitness up and is enjoying his chance of being a regular in the first eleven.

“I also don’t think the fans should forget that we have some good youngsters waiting in the wings. The end of this season and next year’s campaign are going to be important times for Kevin Bradley, Div McGowan, Ruari McLennan and Sean McKenna. They have the talent and now need to impress and impose themselves in the first team squad on a regular basis.”

Joe is certainly confident about the future…

“Without a doubt the future is looking good for the club. By our standards some high profile experienced players left in January. I said at the time the squad was good enough to cope and hopefully people will believe that now. We do need to strengthen and I understand that we are by no means the finished article but we have some great quality here. Possibly the changes at the transfer window have allowed some of the talent that we had in reserve to shine and let’s enjoy that talent.”
