Ross County 2 v 2 Clyde

Sat, 17th Mar 2007 10:05pm

It's been a momentous week for new dad Michael McGowan but the Northern Irish Under-21 internationalist was not smiling on St. Patrick's Day as his penalty goal proved insufficient to take the points against Ross County.

The Bully Wee were twice ahead but County fought back on each occasion to secure a point for the Highlanders.

Brian Gilmour stole the show with a fantastic opener which gave Clyde the lead in the 47th minute. The talented midfielder curled the ball high into the net from 20 yards for a tremendous first goal in a white shirt. However, just moments later Sean Higgins scrambled the ball goalwards from close range after Clyde failed to clear a corner to make the score 1-1, although there were strong claims that the ball hadn't actually crossed the line.

McGowan scored from the spot after Dougie Imrie was fouled by Mark McCulloch; a soft looking award that was perhaps deserved after an earlier mistake by the Match Officials.

After losing Ryan McCann through injury, the home side began to pile pressure on the Clyde midfield and defence and it seemed only a matter of time before the lead would be surrendered again. Derek Adams pounced 11 minutes from time after David Hutton superbly parried a shot clear.

The match was influenced in no small way by a fierce wind blowing through Victoria Park and Hutton almost scored with a clearance during the second half.
