Fans Sign On McGregor!

Tue, 23rd Jan 2007 6:00pm

It was the Bully Wee Fund that did it! That is the understanding of the www.clydefc.co.uk this evening. The website learned today that the funding for the signature of Neil McGregor has come directly from the Clyde Supporters' Trust initiative, The Bully Wee Fund. It appears that the deal to keep David Hutton at the club was also funded by the fans who contribute.

A Trust spokesman said this evening: "A while ago we recognised that there was going to be shortfall between our ambitions for the club and the income that can be derived through the gates to fund the players' budget. That is why we wanted to start this initiative where fans can either contribute amounts on a one off basis or better still pay smaller amounts on a regular basis.

"All the money received is ringfenced directly for the player budget. It is a simple idea but it can make a big difference as tonight's news demonstrates. As Clyde fans we are rarely satisfied and quite rightly our ambitions are high. If more people sign up even in a small way then we will have more nights like this where we can celebrate the fact that we have secured one of the best young talents in the SFL."

Neil McGregor this afternoon signed a 30 month deal and is delighted to stay a part of the club and continue learning his trade with Joe Miller. McGregor's signature had been chased by a number of SPL and SFL sides and many are convinced that the youngster has a big future in the game.

Certainly McGregor, who was reportedly interesting Rangers before he first signed up for The Bully Wee, has consistently impressed in his defensive duties and of course immediately came to the attention of Clyde fans when he scored against Manchester United on his debut.

The news of Neil signing on is a terrific boost for all and fans will definitely be looking forward to the centre back being one of the Clyde stars for the next few seasons.
