Confessions of an Edinburgh Clyde Supporter (25/11/2006: QOS at Broadwood... with Thistle away thrown in too!)

This was a big week for Clyde. Having drawn with County, again, in a game which we should have put them to the sword, again, it was vital that we took at least 4 points of Thistle and Queens. And 4 points is exactly what we managed.

Games against them are always nervous occasions. Both sets of supporters scared to death of loosing and tension fills the air. Our support though did a great job of getting behind the players, vocally backing the team until the death. The Thistle supporters? Well, if you supported them would you sing about it??!!

Unfortunately Wednesday proved to be another game that felt like two points dropped rather than one gained. Despite playing well we didn't really create to much upfront, Gary Arbuckle though made himself a hero with a well taken goal after a superb through ball from Paddy! Agent Keogh, return to base, mission accomplished. Unfortunately though, despite looking solid for 80 minutes, letting miniature Jimmy Gibson score from a header terrified our defence into 10 minutes of panic.

By the time the final whistle went, a decent point felt like a defeat and a draw didn't really suit either side. On reflection though, a point at Firhill on a wet Wednesday night is a point gained.

The good thing about midweek games is that it's not long until Saturday and the next action!

Queen of the South came to Fortress Broadwood on Saturday knowing that if they beat us they would be right on our tails, whilst a defeat for them could have a big impact on the rest of the season.

In the first half though, we created chance after chance, looking like a team who will be affecting the top end of the table not the bottom. After 44 minutes though you could hear all the old-timers (My Dad) in the crowd muttering away about how it was going to be one of those days. By the end of the 45th minute though, it was 2-0 and we were on easy street! McGregor with the first and an own goal for the second. The goals came from a total distance of about 4 yards but who cares!

The second half was the same story. Clyde playing like a team on top form banged in another two, Arbuckle notching his 2nd in two games and McHale putting away the sort of penalty that has never been given before in the history of professional football. You can't keep everyone happy though, and some felt it necessary to boo our possession game in the last couple of minute. Does anyone else think Joe Miller will never have the fans on his side?

However, 9 points of the top, 10 ahead of ninth place, no team better than us, possibly one or two good signings at Christmas? For me, after the summer we had... its a good time to be a Clyde fan.
