Queen Of The South V Clyde

The season has only just kicked off and the Cup action has already arrived!
Clyde travel to Palmerston on Tuesday night to start their CIS cup campaign aginst Queen of the South.

Cup memories

Last season was one of the most memorable in our recent history and the CIS cup had a major impact on the club. A cup draw that took us to Ibrox was intriguing enough but the action will always be remembered.

Despite losing an early goal to Rangers through a Thomas Buffel effort, Clyde were not daunted and equalised with a back heeled effort from Craig Bryson after good work from McGowan and Tom Brighton. With 20 minutes to go Clyde took the lead through a Stephen O’Donnell penalty after Robert Harris had been fouled in the box. The fans were delirious as the Bully Wee led the then champions of Scotland 2-1 with 17 minutes to go but then of course it all went pear shaped.

Rangers got the equaliser after a Paul Jarvie mistake. Clyde were to lose the tie 5-2 after goals from Federico Nieto, Marvin Andrews and Peter Lovenkrands but the Clyde fans left Ibrox that night with there heads held high and proud of how the team had performed that night.

Tuesday’s cup tie

Ibrox was a memorable evening but is history and now it is up to the club to create new memories but the team will have to overcome an extremely difficult tie to have any chance of progressing to the phase where SPL teams join the fray.

The last trip to Palmerston was also a memorable one, despite losing the tie 2-1, the Clyde faithful witnessed one of the finest goals of the season when Douglas Imrie (pictured right) scored a spectacular scissor kick. This time round if we combine a finishing flair to the great passing and movement the first team have shown us in recent weeks then we will certainly make sure of a entertaining 90 mins.
