Mixed Fortunes For Youth

It was mixed fortunes for two of the Clyde Youth Development teams at the weekend. Dougie Bell's U19s lost to a strong Alloa side by four goals to two. Paul Reynolds was the star performer for the Broadwood club, with a couple of goals to his credit, but that was not enough to secure a much needed victory over the Wasps.

In contrast the U17s won by the odd goal in a nine goal thriller against Morton. Danny O'Neill opened the scoring with a superbly executed half volley. That early goal should have settled the Bully Wee but the rest of the first period went from bad to worse as some terrible defending saw the side go in at half time interval trailing by three goals to one.

Coaching staff may have been fearing the worst but the youngsters responded brilliantly to their half time team talk as the Bully Wee stormed back into the lead with a hat trick from Darren Sands.

A penalty save from Murdoch kept Clyde in front but only for a moment as Morton levelled. At 4-4 Bryan Lyttle should have secured victory in a one on one situation sadly he fluffed his chance but all was not lost. Shortly afterwards the same player got the goal that won the game and gave the Bully Wee a much needed three points to keep the club's interest in the league cup alive.
