Tuesday Press Conference
Clyde Football Club have announced that a press conference is to be held on Tuesday 12 July at 11am in Broadwood Stadium. The purpose is three fold: to unveil the new home strip; to formally introduce Clyde’s new first team shirt sponsors and to give a full update on the Manchester United Optical Express Challenge Cup match on Saturday.
The morning will include the opportunity to see the Challenge trophy, kindly donated by the game’s sponsors, which both teams will be competing for. There will also be the opportunity for the press to meet two of the players from the 1955 Clyde side that defeated Manchester United.
Clyde, undefeated against Manchester United, are hoping that with the backing of their fans the Bully Wee can maintain that record.
In September 1954 United came to Shawfield for a floodlight friendly match with the Bully Wee winning 4-1. Thirteen months later, and on their way to a Championship win, the Manchester club returned to Rutherglen and on that occasion fared much better, containing Scottish Cup-holders Clyde to a mere 2-1 win!
Fans are reminded that this event is for press only. Further details on the Optical Express Challenge Cup match will appear later.
