Preparations Begin For Next Season

Billy Reid spoke last night of Clyde’s ongoing player contract talks and last Thursday afternoon’s direct talks between the Directors and the whole squad, which Billy also attended.

“The Board have spoken to the players and given them an update on events at the Club and have begun the process of talking to the squad about next season. I obviously can’t go into any details but what I can say is that the Club has made some very positive offers, the best they could have made.”

Billy continued: “It would have been ideal to have started this process earlier but I understand the financial restrictions that the Club faces. This Club came a lot closer than many know to closure and the Directors, the Trust and other fans have saved the Club. We cannot go down the CVA route again or there would be no Clyde and that is paramount in the minds of all those who have an accountability for the running of the Club. Put simply we can’t promise £2 if we only have a £1.”

Billy did not wish to predict the outcome of the player contract negotiations. “We’ve just got to wait and see. We’re talking about players who have achieved great success over a period of years in a highly competitive division, so other clubs are going to be interested in them, of that there is no doubt. But hopefully the players will choose to commit to Clyde.”
