Ak On Weekend Issues

Sun, 18th Apr 2004 12:00am

Two fiercely talked about issues on Saturday were the late removal from the starting line-up of Austin McCann and the rumours linking Alan Kernaghan to the soon to be vacant Hibs' job.

Here is what the manager had to say on both items...

Austin McCann: "It was an absolute nightmare. We read on Teletext on Friday night that he was suspended so we tried to get something on it on Saturday morning because we had no record of it from the SFA or the SFL. We managed to get through to Hearts and Chris Robinson confirmed that he was suspended. Fortunately they were at home and we owe him a debt of gratitude.

"Luckily enough we got to the ref quickly and we managed to change things. He was 15 minutes away from starting and if he had we would have lost the points and probably some more.

"It may have been due to a postal strike but I'm not happy at all about the way it's gone."

Hibs speculation: "This is about the fifth job I've been linked with this season and I haven't heard anything concrete about any of them. The only thing I've heard about during my time at Clyde was the Inverness job when that came up.

"Inverness contacted the club who then asked me and I said no. That was the first and only approach I've had. After that there have been rumours about St.Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Livingston, Plymouth and now Hibs.

"I've heard nothing about it so I can't comment."
